Frequently Asked Questions

After four bargaining meetings there are still a range of unresolved issues, including proposed wage increases, leave entitlements and whether Store and Assistant Store Managers should be included in a proposed Agreement.

The Reject Shop is now moving to put its current offer to a vote, even though key issues are unresolved.

The SDA believes bargaining is not proceeding fairly or efficiently, as we believe TRS has failed to properly engage about who the agreement should cover and has prematurely ended bargaining with unresolved issues.

The Reject Shop is pushing workers to vote on a proposal that contains several important unresolved matters. Major outstanding issues yet to be resolved or agreed upon include:

  • Wages increases and the quantum of any sign on bonus payment.
  • Annual leave entitlements.
  • Personal/carer’s leave evidence requirements.
  • Public holiday arrangements (especially for Tasmania).
  • First aid provisions.
  • Other compliance and agreement drafting issues.
  • The ‘scope’ of the Agreement. The Union continues to advocate for a proposed Agreement to cover Store and Assistant Store Managers. This is strongly supported by members, but TRS continues to exclude them.

Because workers deserve more, not less. The Agreement is not finished and it’s not fair. The current offer is incomplete and contains cuts to your conditions.

Under the current Agreement, workers are entitled to 4.4 weeks of annual leave. TRS’s offer cuts your annual leave entitlement back to 4 weeks and puts restrictions on accessing the 0.4 weeks you are currently entitled to, including use it or lose conditions.

TRS has proposed changes to personal leave evidence rules, including taking away your entitlement to have absences of 2 or more consecutive days off without providing evidence and requiring evidence for sick leave where if you’ve had an annual leave request denied.

The SDA and TRS had not finished negotiating a fair wage offer. TRS’ wage offer is only marginally above the Award rate, which is not good enough with rising living costs. The company’s offer retains only a tiny margin above the Award, and that a one-off $75 payment is insufficient.

The Union continues to push include Store and Assistant Store Managers in any new Agreement to give them a collective say in their wages and conditions at work.

If a majority of workers do not support the proposed offer and vote NO, the SDA can keep fighting for fairer pay and conditions and bargaining will continue.

If workers vote yes, you will be locking in a substandard offer for the next 3 years which reduces existing entitlements.
