The proposed Grill’d Agreement has been voted up by Grill’d employees.

But the SDA still has serious concerns. This Grill’d Agreement will:

  • Lock in below-Award wages
  • Make you worse off than other fast food workers
  • Deny workers full penalty rates, annual leave loading and proper Award entitlements
  • Repeat the same mistakes that led the Fair Work Commission to reject Grill’d’s last attempt at a new Agreement

The Agreement will now go the Fair Work Commission for approval. No new agreement can be put in place without approval by the Commission.

The SDA will continue to advocate for Grill’d workers to get a better deal and will keep all SDA union members up to date.

How Grill’d workers pay compares

Grill’d workers are currently paid far less than workers on the Award – just look at the comparison below.

If the new Agreement is approved, this unfair system will repeat itself.

Grill’d is offering workers a 1% pay rise in the future. Meanwhile workers covered by the Fast Food Award received a 3.5% pay rise this year and a 3.75% pay rise last year and are also receiving full penalty rates and leave loading.

As of 1 July 2025 – All rates shown are adult rates for team members.

Your rest breaks at Grill'd

The SDA is investigating potential widespread breaches of rest break entitlements for workers at all Grill’d restaurants across Australia.

The SDA has received multiple reports that workers at Grill’d:

  • Did not consistently receive their paid 10-minute rest breaks
  • Were told rest breaks were “optional” or simply not rostered
  • Were misled on what a rest break is.If you’ve been denied or misled about your break entitlements at Grill’d, you could be eligible for compensation.

Breaks are a right for all workers at Grill’d and they cannot be denied under any circumstances.

Under the Grill’d enterprise agreements, workers are entitled to:

  • A paid 10-minute rest break when working 4 hours or more
  • A 30 to 60-minute unpaid meal break when working more than 5 hours
  • Unless a second meal break is given, two paid 10-minute rest breaks for shifts of 9 hours or more

These breaks are not optional, and Grill’d has a legal obligation to ensure workers receive them and are paid accordingly.
