More than half a million children work in Australia, most of them in fast food, retail and hospitality. However, they have little protection from harassment, sexual and otherwise, from adults working alongside them.

In a landmark move, ALDI workers across South Australia have rejected ALDI’s latest Enterprise Agreement. This was the result of a strong campaign by the SDA Union – South Australia’s largest union – calling on workers to reject the proposed offer.

India Atkinson from Woolworths Kings Meadows has been selected for the Australian Seniors Women’s Inline Hockey Team which will be competing in the World Roller Games tournament in Italy during September.

Annual Delegates Day Meeting

In March, SDA Delegates got together for our annual Delegates Day. This was an opportunity for Delegates to get updates on SDA bargaining and efforts being made in the lead up to the annual wage review, as well as our Make Easter Sunday a Public Holiday in Tas campaign, Adult Age = Adult Wage campaign and the ongoing No One Deserves a Serve campaign.

Easter Sunday Rally

On 6 March, we took to the streets to once again draw attention to the fact that Tasmanian workers are the only workers in Australia that do not have Easter Sunday as a Public Holiday. Every worker in every other Australian State or Territory can spend Easter with their families and friends, but not Tasmanians.

MEDIA RELEASE | Super on paid parental leave – another step to gender equality

The SDA welcomes the Albanese government’s announcement that it will pay superannuation on government funded paid parental leave from July 1st 2025. As a union representing a large number of women, many of them lower paid, the SDA has been fighting for this initiative for several years.
