The SDA Accident Insurance Scheme is here to support our members in times of need — not just at work, but in everyday life. With recent improvements, financial SDA Victoria members now receive even stronger protection, 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Stronger cover, more support

For many years, all financial SDA Victoria members have been covered by the Union’s free Accident Insurance Scheme. The SDA continues to strengthen this policy, with increased benefits and new features — at no cost to members.

Accidents can happen

The scheme provides cover for a wide range of serious injuries that occur outside of work, including:

  • Fractures and broken bones
  • Loss of limbs, sight or hearing
  • Full or partial tendon tears
  • Arthroscopic or reconstructive surgeries
  • Death or permanent incapacity
  • And now — injuries caused by unprovoked workplace assaults*

Accident Insurance: Coverage for accidents outside of work.

When you’re covered

The scheme applies to any physical event that occurs by chance and is caused by sudden, external and identifiable means that could not have been expected, outside of work hours except for the unprovoked workplace assault happening at workplace*.

This scheme complements workers’ compensation — providing you with additional protection when you’re off the clock.

Need to make a claim?

If you’re injured in an accident outside of work, contact the SDA as soon as possible. Claims should be submitted within 30 days of the incident. We’ll guide you through the process and help ensure everything is in order.
