Given the significant work undertaken by the SDA and its partners on analysing productivity in Australia, and proposing responses to the issues faced, the SDA submits the attached Productivity and Retail “Under Pressure” policy brief from November 2025 which outlines that productivity growth must be accompanied by:
- fair wage outcomes,
- safe staffing, sustainable workloads, and collaborative work design, and
- consultation on workplace change and collaborative work design.
Without addressing psychosocial risks and job quality, productivity gains will continue to come at the expense of workers’ health, safety, and long-term economic participation.
The SDA supports the submission of the ACTU.
