Easter is almost here, and you need to know your entitlements over this period. Here are the answers to some of the most common questions we receive from members. It is most important to note that your specific entitlements on public holidays are governed by the Agreement or Award applicable to your employment. Depending on which company you work for, there may be some differences in the rights outlined below. You should refer to your Agreement or Award to ensure your workplace entitlements are observed.

MEDIA RELEASE | Retail workers face losing $5,000 a year – and it won’t stop there

Australian Unions are standing up to some of the country’s largest retailers in a fight to stop the abolition of penalty rates for retail workers nationwide. ACTU Secretary, Sally McManus, and SDA National Secretary, Gerard Dwyer, are in Sydney today where a full bench of the Fair Work Commission is hearing a bid to wipe out penalty rates for at least 200,000 retail workers.

Union Win: New Laws Around Casual Conversion

New laws have come into effect which will give casual workers more power to convert to permanent employment.
