Important information about the proposed new Sephora Agreement
1 October 2024
The new Sephora Agreement has been voted up by a majority of workers, with 68% of workers voting in favour.
This means the new Agreement will now go to the Fair Work Commission for approval. If the proposed Agreement is approved, it will take effect 7 days after this decision.
Throughout negotiations, the SDA fought to secure the best deal possible for all Sephora workers.
The improved pay and entitlements of this Agreement – including guaranteed pay increases, a maximum number of shifts per fortnight, the higher duties allowance and new penalty rates – were only possible thanks to union members.
By standing strong, the SDA and members pushed Sephora to return to the bargaining table and negotiate a better deal.
However, we still have several concerns with this Agreement and will be raising these at the Fair Work Commission during the approval process.
At the Fair Work Commission, the major concerns we will be raising and seeking to fix include:
- Overtime provisions – These leave some workers worse off than under the Retail Award
- Evening penalty rates for casuals – Sephora has excluded casuals from earning a 25% penalty rate for working after 6pm. We are seeking to overturn this to ensure casual workers are properly compensated.
- Part-time rostering provisions – We will be seeking to provide more security and prevent Sephora from changing rosters at their discretion.
- Paid rest breaks – we will be seeking to align this to the Retail Award and ensure all workers receive a break when working 4 hours, not more than 4 hours.
- Classification structure – to ensure it aligns with the Retail Award.
- Salaried workers pay – we are concerned the salaried workers arrangements may leave some workers worse off.
We will keep you updated throughout the approval process.
We’ve also put together a detailed summary of all of the proposed changes and how it may impact you:
