Following negotiations with the Company, bargaining for a new Fantastic Furniture Agreement has now concluded.
The Fantastic Furniture Agreement sets your pay and conditions and it’s important to make an informed decision before voting.
The SDA does not support the proposed Agreement put forward by the Company.

While the proposal includes some benefits, it does not include important claims based on your feedback about your pay and conditions.
The company’s position during negotiations was that all additional entitlements should be in policy and not in the Agreement. This Is concerning for workers as conditions that sit In policy and not In the Agreement are not enforceable through the Fair Work Commission and can be changed by the company at any time without worker’s having a say.
The SDA does not believe the proposed Agreement provides the best possible outcome for workers.
Claims not accepted
The SDA surveyed Fantastic Furniture members to compile a list of what was important to them at their workplace. Please see below for a list of claims from Fantastic Furniture Workers that were rejected by the company:
- Pay rates above the Retail Industry Minimum for each year of the Agreement
- Inclusion of a process to address workload and understaffing issues
- Rest breaks to be 15 mins instead of 10 mins
- Inclusion of a process for Part Time employees to be able increase their core contracts to the average hours they have worked over the previous 6 months (locking in additional hours to base contracts)
- Additional Annual Leave
- Retention of the status quo provision in the grievance procedure which ensures that nothing in your roster changes until a dispute has been resolved.
Improvements Secured
- There have been some improvements secured by the SDA through bargaining which include an increase in minimum part time weekly hours and the phasing out of junior rates for 18 year old workers.
The proposed Agreement contains changes to conditions of employment at Fantastic Furniture and will replace the Fantastic Furniture Enterprise Agreement 2019 if approved.
If approved by team members, the proposed Agreement will be lodged with the Fair Work Commission (FWC) for assessment. The commencement date is dependent on when it is approved by the FWC.
The proposed Agreement will nominally expire four years after it is approved by the FWC.
Please read this information carefully and if you have any questions about the proposal, please speak to your SDA Delegate, SDA Organiser or call the SDA.
Voting will occur online soon.
