Will does an incredible job driving union membership in his workplace. He empowers his workmates by educating them on their workplace rights and by showcasing the many benefits of union membership. Will enjoys helping out his fellow workmates and being someone they can go to if they have any questions or need support.

We asked Will some questions on his role as a Union Delegate and what he enjoys most.
Why did you become a Delegate?
I became a Delegate because I wanted to be someone my fellow team members could come to for advice regarding their rights and entitlements that they were unsure about or any issues they were having with which I could help assist.
Why is building the union important?
Building the union is important. The bigger we are, the stronger we are and we have a greater ability to affect change in the workplace. Without a strong membership, we have less bargaining power and therefore have less influence when improving wages and conditions.
What campaigns have you been involved with?
Although I am relatively new to my role as a Delegate, the “Adult Age = Adult Wage” campaign is one I actively discuss with our younger team members and encourage them to support, as it is so important to stand together for fair wage justice.
What has been your most notable achievement in your workplace?
I would say growing the SDA in my workplace. Talking about the benefits of being part of a union and encouraging workers to join is an achievement for me as it is something normally well out of my comfort zone.
What have you enjoyed about being a Delegate most so far?
So far, I have most enjoyed assisting a few of my fellow team members with questions they had. Many were not aware of their entitlements and obligations. It was great to help them and be able to provide them with more knowledge on their rights.
