Newcastle Delegate of the Month June 2025

This month, we are highlighting one of our passionate Delegates, Connor from Coles Medowie.

Connor is an active and passionate advocate in his workplace. He looks out for his workmates in his role as a Union Delegate and helps his workmates with any questions raised regarding their rights and conditions at work.

Thanks for being such an outstanding union representative at your site.

SDA Delegate Connor recently shared why being part of your Union matters and what he values most about being a Delegate.

Why did you become a Delegate?

I became a Delegate so I could help others and steer them in the right direction if something were to go wrong within the workplace.

Why is building the union important?

The union is important as it not only protects our rights within the workplace but also fights to build and strengthen our rights and conditions at work.

What has been your most notable achievement in your workplace?

My most notable achievement in my workplace has been advocating for the Union to my teammates and helping new starters transition into the workplace, providing a welcoming environment, whilst informing them of the Union and how the Union can support them. I’ve also enjoyed stepping into the role of a Delegate with new challenges where I can support my teammates further. For example, helping my teammates understand the proposed changes to our Agreement during the roll out and helping answer any questions they were unsure of.

What have you enjoyed about being a Delegate most so far?

I enjoy the additional training and understanding of our workplace rights and conditions I get to develop through the SDA, whilst being a Delegate. I also enjoy the privilege of looking out for all my workmates within my workplace.
