SDA Delegate Kylie recently shared why being part of your Union matters and what she values most about being a Delegate.
Why did you become a Delegate?
I became a Delegate after another Delegate at my worksite thought I would be a good fit and recommended me. I enjoy helping and assisting my workmates and sticking up for their rights and I know I’m capable of getting positive outcomes.
Why is building the union important?
Building the Union is important as the more people that stand up, the stronger our voice is and the more change that we can make.
What has been your most notable achievement in your workplace?
One of my most notable achievements has been stepping in and providing leadership and guidance to the team when our other long-serving Delegate was on leave. I am also really proud of the fact that I’ve grown my workplace union membership by 15 in the last 8 months.
What have you enjoyed about being a Delegate most so far?
I have really enjoyed getting to work alongside my Organisers and having their support (I will never say no to a hot choccie catch up!) but on a more serious note, I’ve enjoyed helping the team and using the confidence I had to advocate for myself to advocate for others too.
