Congratulations on the recognition!
Discover what Heather values most about why being part of your union is so important.
Why did you become a Delegate?
I became a Delegate to advocate for my teammates’ workplace rights when they feel like they haven’t got a voice.
Why is building the union important?
There is power in numbers! You never know what other workers may be experiencing across the country. You may think you’re the only one with an issue but across the union there may be multiple workers experiencing something similar, that can be addressed because of shared unity. Together we build strength.
What campaigns have you been involved with?
I have been involved with multiple roster resets and through that I have been able to liaise with team members to get their desired hours met to maintain their working life balance. More recently, I was involved with our new Enterprise Agreement rollout and helping relay the changes proposed.
What has been your most notable achievement in your workplace?
My most notable achievement in my workplace has been advocating for the Union to my teammates, which in turn has helped fellow team members understand the importance of having and being in a union. Advocating for what the union stands for and what the union provides.
What have you enjoyed about being a Delegate most so far?
I have enjoyed educating teammates to understand what their workplace rights are and what the union does to support those workplace rights for team members.
