Meet our Delegate of the month, Vitor from Bunnings Tuggerah.

Vitor has been outstanding in building a strong union at his worksite and providing support to members with work-related matters. His dedication and consistent efforts in advocating for union values have been building a stronger membership. Vitor also supports, advise and represents members when they need a hand at work.

Congratulations Vitor!

We asked Vitor some questions about what he values about being a Union Delegate!

Why did you become a Delegate?

I decided to become a Delegate to be there for my fellow team members and know that they are not alone when needing assistance for issues and grievances in the workplace.

Why is building the union important?

There is strength in numbers. This helps secure better conditions and rights in our workplace.

What campaigns have you been involved with?

I am excited about the Union’s Adult Age = Adult Wage campaign. The Union campaigned for, and Bunnings agreed to abolish junior rates for 18-, 19- and 20-year-olds some time ago. Its time all employers to get onboard.

What has been your most notable achievement in your workplace?

My most notable achievement as a Delegate has been helping to improve how knowledge is shared by Bunnings with my workmates. Initially, online learning at Bunnings was just for how to use our systems. My suggestion was to add product training as well to help team members with their knowledge.

What have you enjoyed about being a Delegate most so far?

I most enjoy being there for our members when they have a work issue that I can help resolve in store. Sometimes, they just need an ear and somebody to talk to.
