Congratulations, Nicole from Coles Lake Haven for all her excellent work as an SDA Union Delegate, and well-deserved recognition as our June Delegate of the Month.
Nicole is a superstar at resolving issues that arise in her workplace and is very supportive of her co-workers.
She was instrumental in explaining proposed changes to the Coles EA in her store and ensuring the team were aware of their rights in the workplace.
Nicole brings a proactive and positive attitude to her role as a Union Delegate, always ensuring new workers are welcomed, know their rights and feel supported at work.
We asked Nicole what made her become a Union Delegate and what she values most about her role.
1. Why did you become a Delegate?
I became a Delegate to help people and assist in resolving issues in my workplace.
2. Why is recruitment important?
Recruitment is important because there is strength in numbers, and this helps us achieve greater results.
3. What campaigns have you been involved with and why are they important?
I have been involved with the new Coles EBA rollout which was important in ensuring the team were aware of their rights in the workplace. I have also been involved within my store with roster resets, ensuring the team are looked after when rosters are changed.
4. What has been your most notable achievement in your workplace?
My most notable achievement was resolving a roster issue in the bakery department with the reduction in penalties due to later starts, ensuring the team were not disadvantaged.
5. What have you enjoyed about being a Delegate most so far?
I have liked communicating with people and having the satisfaction of seeing my co-workers happy when we can get a positive resolution.
6. What do you aim to achieve in your workplace in the next 12 months?
I want to invest more time in communicating with the team about the benefits of the Union. I also want to continue to assist in developing more Delegates in the store and I look forward to new opportunities within this role.
7. What do you get most out of the role as a Delegate?
As a Delegate I like having a positive effect on our members and educating them on their rights within the workplace.
