Delegate of the month

Congratulations to Patricia from Woolworths Scone for all your excellent work as an SDA Union Delegate, and well deserved recognition as our April Delegate of the Month.

Patricia is a strong advocate in her workplace and uses her voice to support her co-workers. Over the past 3 years in her role as a Union Delegate, Patricia has ensured new workers know their rights and feel supported at work. Keep up the good work!

We asked Patricia what made her become a Union Delegate and what she values most about her role.

1. Why did you become a Delegate?

I became a Delegate as our store didn’t have one. I had previously been a Delegate so everyone would come to me for support anyway, I decided to take the next step and become a Delegate once again to be the voice for my store and support for my co-workers.

2. Why is recruitment important?

Recruitment is very important! I like to use the term “power in numbers” the more members we recruit the bigger the voice we have so we have a better chance to get improved working conditions and pay rises.

3. What campaigns have you been involved with and why are they important?

They are very important for us to stand together in unity and show support for one another.

4. What has been your most notable achievement in your workplace?

My most notable achievement so far was having a Team Leader terminated for inappropriate behaviour to female team members. This happened with the support of my Store Manager, my SDA Organiser and myself.

5. What have you enjoyed about being a Delegate most so far?

I enjoy helping my members and making sure they know their rights and speaking up for them when they need me to.

6. What do you aim to achieve in your workplace in the next 12 months?

As we are currently going through a new EA, I will be making sure our members are kept updated and informed, and I will be helping with the roll out.

7. What do you get most out of the role as a Delegate?

I enjoy being able to meet new employees and inform them about what being an SDA member is all about and all the benefits of joining the Union.

SDA members can access important resources and information that’s specific to your workplace.
