Workers at Carlos Super IGA Quirindi stood together and, with the help of their Union, recently recovered an estimated $66,000 in unpaid superannuation.
For approximately 8 months the employer had failed or neglected to pay superannuation to their nominated superannuation fund in accordance with the law.
Following an investigation, the SDA took prompt and effective action to ensure members were promptly paid what was owed.
With the backing of the strong membership at this site, the Union wrote to the employer and to the Australian Taxation Office seeking recovery of unpaid entitlements and encouraging the ATO to take action and enforce penalties against the employer.
Whilst the Union still awaits any kind of response from the ATO, workers were pleased the Union’s intervention has now resulted in the employer rectifying the underpayment.
Members speaking up and standing together makes a real difference. Workers, and their SDA Delegate, David, can be proud of their efforts and know that their union membership makes a real difference.
