All workers have the right to join the SDA – this is called freedom of association.
Joining your union is a fundamental workplace right and protected by the Fair Work Act 2009.
You don’t need your employer’s permission to join a union.
As your union, the SDA plays an important role in the workplace and is here to make sure you get a fair go at work. We push for better pay and conditions on your behalf and can help resolve your workplace problems.
The SDA can also:
- Fix safety issues in your store
- Make sure you’re getting the correct rate of pay and all entitlements
- Dispute roster changes on your behalf
- Pursue underpayment claims
- Represent you in all meetings and legal matters including unfair dismissals, workers compensation disputes and bullying incidents
