The SDA is investigating potential wage underpayments affecting employees working for Outback Stores and other remote community retail employers.
The investigation covers the period of 1 January 2021 to the present.
We are particularly concerned that salaried Store Managers, Assistant Managers and other supervisory employees may not have been paid enough to satisfy their minimum entitlements under the General Retail Industry Award.
Many managers and retail employees regularly work significant additional hours to meet the operational demands of remote stores. These workplaces often require employees to perform a broad range of duties, respond to staffing shortages, and work well beyond their ordinary rostered hours.
If you’re paid an annual salary, the salary must be sufficient to compensate the employee for all Award entitlements, including minimum wages, overtime, penalty rates, allowances and other applicable Award benefits. If it does not, additional payments may be owed.
The SDA is investigating whether employees have received all their lawful entitlements.
