Over many years, we’ve fought to win important protections for retail workers in the Retail Award and in negotiations for Enterprise Agreements.
But these rights are under attack.
The Australian Retail Association (ARA) and other employer groups are trying to reduce – and in some cases even remove – important entitlements that retail workers enjoy.
Through an application at the Fair Work Commission, the ARA is seeking to radically change rostering provisions, overtime provisions and salaried workers’ entitlements in the Retail Award.
The SDA is strongly opposing these changes in the Fair Work Commission and seeking to put a stop to these significant changes.
While the ARA and employer groups are focused on sending your rights backward, we’re focused on making positive change.
We’ve lodged an application seeking to reclassify Assistant Store Managers and Duty Managers in large retailers to better recognise the work you do.
If successful, our application would mean workers who are currently classified as Level 6 would be reclassified as Level 7. This means these workers would receive a pay rise.
This submission – and our ongoing work to create positive change and ensure you’re treated with respect – is only possible with your support.
Thank you to all members who took the time to share their experiences and help us build a strong case for change in this submission.
