Thanks to legal action by the SDA Union, Jaycar and Road Tech Marine workers are receiving millions in backpay for not being paid for all time worked and other breaches.

What are workers being backpaid for?

Following an SDA legal action in 2024, Jaycar commenced a nationwide audit into unpaid work and breaches of the Award.

Jaycar has now completed this audit and as a result, workers will receive millions in backpay relating to:

  • Working unpaid before and after rostered shifts
  • Higher Duties allowance
  • Rostering breaches regarding Sunday work
  • Travelling Time Reimbursement
  • Motor Vehicle Allowance

The SDA has been closely involved in the audit process to ensure all workers receive what they’re owed.

Who is eligible for backpay?

All current and former workers employed at Jaycar or Road Tech Marine between 19 June 2017 to 30 June 2024 may be eligible for backpay – provided they have been underpaid in the above ways.

How will I know if I be notified if I’m receiving backpay?

If you’ve been underpaid, you will receive an email or alternate form of communication directly from Jaycar outlining what you’re owed.

This will not include any amounts relating to the travel time reimbursement or motor vehicle allowance, which apply when working at stores other than your home store.

If you believe you’re eligible for backpay for these, you need to provide further information to the Company through the Remediation Portal.

If you have any questions about your backpay, the SDA is here to help.

Being paid for all time worked at the correct rate isn’t optional – it’s the law. The SDA is here to make sure you receive everything you’re owed.
