Housing prices across Australia are significantly outpacing wages. Over the last 25 years, house prices have increased at twice the rate of wages.
This has led to working people being locked out of owning their own home and skyrocketing rents.
The proportion of wages that working people and their families are expending on housing, mortgages and rents is unsustainable.
Housing affordability is a particularly critical issue for retail, fast food and warehousing workers and the SDA has long advocated for solutions to ensure SDA members can put a roof over their head.
All working people deserve to have a secure future and that means having access to affordable and secure housing.
The SDA Union is conducting a member-wide survey to better understand how rising house prices and rents are impacting our members.
Whether you own or rent, we want to hear from you. Your experiences and insights will help shape our next steps and advocate for more affordable housing and better rights for renters.
