Feeling unsafe at work – in any form – isn’t normal.
The SDA is extremely concerned about the physical and mental wellbeing of workers at Sexyland sites across the country.
Union members at a Sexyland store in SA have reported serious safety issues to the SDA relating to improper systems of work, illegal activity, sexual harassment and psychosocial hazards.
These concerns include:
- Frequent sexual harassment by customers
- No training or review process in relation to sexual harassment and customer abuse
- Illegal activity regarding the sale of stimulants
- Accepting and reselling donated pornography
- Inadequate lighting, poor visibility, limited access to safe spaces and multiple exits when working late at night
- Lack of security on site late at night
- Being directed to serve intoxicated customers and never refuse a sale.

These practices and illegal activities are putting workers at serious risk.
Sexyland is failing to keep its workers safe from sexual harassment, inappropriate behaviour and exposing them to serious safety hazards.
The SDA has lodged formal reports with Safe Work SA and SA’s Consumer and Business Services (CBS).
But we are continuing to investigate these concerns and seeking to gather more information from workers.
Your safety at work is non-negotiable. Sexyland has a legal obligation to put workers’ safety first and provide a safe workplace.
