The SDA – the state’s largest union – welcomes the commencement of The Private Parking Areas (Shopping Centre Parking Areas) Amendment Bill 2022.
This means that major shopping centre operators cannot charge for parking without the approval of the Minister for Planning.
The Government has made it clear that it does not support paid parking controls at Westfield TTP, which is welcome news for workers, small businesses and the local community.
The impact of the bill also extends to Westfield West Lakes.
Parking is free for everyone at Westfield West Lakes.
Westfield is yet to indicate whether they will be making an application to the Minister for Planning to reinstate parking charges.
Should Westfield seek to make an application, the SDA will be making representations seeking to ensure that workers have access to free and safe parking as part of any future arrangements.
