The South Australian Election is being held on Saturday March 21.

The past four years have been a demonstration of what we can achieve when we have a government that stands for your interests at work.

In the past four years, Premier Peter Malinauskas and Labor have acted.

Together, we’ve achieved a lot working with the State Labor Government:
  • Tougher penalties for assaulting retail and fast food workers – including jail time of up to 7 years
  • Stronger powers to ban repeatedly abusive customers through the upcoming Workplace Protection Order plan.
  • Easter Sunday declared a public holiday for all South Australians
  • Protected young workers and closed a dangerous loophole that allowed child sex offenders to work alongside teenagers in retail and fast food.
  • Stopped paid parking at major shopping centres and brought an end to Westfield’s boom gates at West Lakes
  • A new Shop Trading Hours Act that stops most public holiday trading in Adelaide and made Sunday’s completely voluntary for most workers.

But we’re not stopping there. We’ve continued to call on the Government to ensure all SDA members are guaranteed a safe, fair and respectful workplace.

Premier Peter Malinauskas has committed to continuing to work with us to deliver:
  • A comprehensive retail safety and security package including new rules to ensure minimum training and numbers of security guards
  • Improvements to Long Service Leave that mean workers will continue to accrue it on Parental Leave and when moving between franchisees of the same franchisor
  • New guidelines around the digital monitoring of workers by employers.
  • The re-establishment of the Young Workers Legal Service
  • A review of the use of Non-Disclosure Agreements in sexual harassment cases
  • A Health and Safety Fund – where every dollar paid from breaches of WHS laws are reinvested into workplace safety initiatives
  • Improved support and protections for Health and Safety Reps including prohibiting employers from obstructing elections

Every vote counts and making an informed decision about what you want from the next state government is important.
