Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced the Labor government will formally request the Fair Work Commission to provide a real wage increase for millions of workers on July 1.
The Albanese Labor Government will be calling for the minimum and award wages to be increased by more than inflation in this year’s Annual Wage Review.
This is great news for SDA members and millions of workers across Australia.
Each year, the Fair Work Commission reviews the minimum wage and award wages and decides how much it should increase by.
This also flows through to many Enterprise Agreements that have wage increases linked to this decision.
It’s critical that we have a Federal Government that’s in your corner and backs strong wage increases for millions of workers in the Annual Wage Review.
Since its election in 2022, the Albanese Government has done just that. They have stood side by side with unions and workers and advocated for real pay rises each year.
On the other hand, Liberal Leader Peter Dutton has no plan to deliver wage growth.
When it comes to your wages and workplace rights, Peter Dutton has always backed what business groups want him to do.
Each year, business groups call on the Fair Work Commission to keep the wages of millions Australian low or not increase them at all.
Peter Dutton and the Liberal Party policies don’t support real wage increases for minimum-wage workers and they oppose tax cuts that would increase your take home pay.
They have no real plan to provide ongoing relief to cost of living pressures.
The last time the Liberals were in power, real wages didn’t grow for nine years and we can’t let this happen again.
