On January 13th a retail employee was brutally attacked and stabbed in the back at Coles Yamato in Ipswich with such force that the blade projected beyond the front of her body.
The SDA applauds Coles decision to take all knives off public display until it can review their packaging and storage.
“The SDA Queensland Branch believes that sharp bladed knives should not be available or on display on supermarket shelves,” said SDA Queensland Secretary Justin Power.
“They should be kept under lock and key.”
Due to the seriousness of this incident and the frequent abuse of retail employees the SDA has requested an urgent meeting with the Queensland Premier.
As of now we are still awaiting a response and we hope receive one without delay.
