As an Organiser for the SDA, I am always out in stores promoting the great services and benefits offered by SDA membership.
One of these is the SDA Accident Insurance, offered to members who injure themselves outside of work.
This benefit offers up to $50,000, depending on the severity of the injury.
I received the following letter from an SDA member, Carmel, who has been a member for nearly 25 years – and wanted to pass it on to remind readers how important it is to get in touch with the SDA if you think you might be eligible.
On February 24th, 2025, while out on a walk I ended up fracturing my left ankle (4-6 weeks in a moon boot). As it happens – outside of work. It meant I will have to use my personal leave to take time off.
I remembered the SDA Free Accident Insurance (even my Organiser, Andrew, also informed me about this too – many thanks)
I rang the SDA on the 26th of Febuary to see if I was covered by this. If you don’t ask or look into it, you don’t know what you could be missing out on. JUST ASK!
The lovely staff at the SDA sent through the forms I needed for my claim. It was accepted and paid to me within a week of the claim.
This has helped with medical and everyday life bills. Being off work for at least 4-6 weeks and on a tight budget, this support has made the difference between breaking even and going into debt.
It’s great being an SDA member as you don’t know when you will need this support – no matter how long you have been a member.
